Welcome to Gilbert Elementary School, where learning is a journey!

Gilbert Elementary School is located in the scenic mountains of Northwest Georgia and has a beautifully landscaped campus, which overlooks the Pigeon Mountain Natural Resource Preserve to the west. We are a Title I school and currently serve 518 students in pre-k through fifth grade. Our staff is highly qualified and strives to provide not only knowledge, but also life skills that students can use beyond elementary school. We believe that learning is a journey and invite our students, parents, and community members to take the first step with us.

Gilbert Elementary is proud to be the home of two forest kindergarten and two forest first grade classes. These classrooms spend a large portion of their day outside daily. They are equipped for cold and rainy weather. So, weather isn’t a deterrent.

Under the leadership of principal, Beth Pelham, students at Gilbert Elementary are place- and project-based STEM learners and researchers. At each grade level, students are involved in ongoing authentic STEM research. The research takes place throughout the school year rather than an isolated event. Students are getting real-world experiences using problem solving and critical thinking skills. Teachers guide students to work collaboratively on various projects and learn to communicate their findings. At Gilbert, students create real solutions to real problems, learning all they can along the way.

At Gilbert Elementary, we are aware of the ever-changing culture and needs of the 21st century workforce. As such, we know that technology will play a vital role in our students’ lives. We integrate the use iPads and Chromebooks into our daily instruction. Students also use a plethora of computer programs to accelerate their learning (i.e. Study Island, Flocabulary, Zearn, Reading Eggs, Math Seeds, Starfall, Google Classroom, Brain Pop Jr., MAP Skills, MAP Fluency, and Khan Academy). Teachers also have access to ChromeCast, Apple TV, Interactive Panels, document cameras, Internet compatible TVs, and digital projectors to aid in lesson planning and presentation.

Students at Gilbert Elementary have the opportunity to extend their learning by joining an after school club. We currently offer VEX, Archery, Chorus, Jr. Beta, Green Team, Tome, and Art Club. We believe that these clubs help our students develop a sense of belonging and teach them life skills such as commitment, decision-making, and teamwork.
