The Gilbert Elementary Media Center is a place where students can discover great books, develop research skills, use technology, and explore new ideas. Students visit throughout the week for library lessons, book checkout, reading activities, and special programs.

Library Expectations
Media Center Policies
Select a topic below to review Gilbert Elementary’s library checkout and book-care guidelines.
Checkout Guidelines
Students in first through fifth grade may check out up to two books. Kindergarten students begin checking out one book during the second semester.
Book Returns and Renewals
Library books are generally due within two weeks. Books may be renewed when another student is not waiting for the title. Returning books on time allows other students to enjoy them.
Taking Care of Library Books
Keep books clean, dry, and away from food, drinks, pets, and younger children. Use a bookmark instead of folding pages. Please return a damaged book to the Media Center so it can be repaired.
Lost or Damaged Books
Families may be asked to pay the replacement cost of a lost or severely damaged book. An approved replacement copy may also be accepted after contacting the Media Center.
Choosing Appropriate Books
Students are encouraged to select books that match their interests, reading ability, classroom expectations, and family preferences. The Media Specialist is available to help students find a good choice.
