Are you an alumnus of Gilbert Elementary School?
Were you a Gilbert Gator? If so, we'd love to hear from you! Did you go on to college or work? What are you doing now? Email Mrs. Richardson if you'd like to be featured on our alumni page. You may reach her at elisarichardson@walkerschools.org
Jordan Ramey: LHS c/o 2009
I can remember my time at Gilbert very well. We didn’t have the outdoor classrooms when I was at Gilbert, but we did have the Camp River Ridge trip for 5th grade. That is one of my most favorite memories. I love taking learning to the outdoors. A few of my favorite teachers from when I was a student there are still working at Gilbert Elementary! Shhhh... Don’t tell them I told you that! They really aren’t that old! I’m currently teaching 6th Grade English/Language Arts at Saddle Ridge Elementary & Middle School and love every minute of it!
Alex Richardson: LHS c/o 2009
Dr. Alex Richardson is a professional philosopher, a teacher, and a proud former Gator. He is currently Director of the National High School Ethics Bowl, a nationwide ethics and civics education program based at the University of North Carolina’s Parr Center for Ethics. He also teaches in the Department of Philosophy at Elon University. An award-winning teacher, Alex is an engaged advocate for bringing moral and political philosophy programs to a wide public audience, and to pre-college populations in particular. Alex holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. When not writing, teaching, or running an Ethics Bowl, Alex enjoys abstract art, jazz music, and a good cup of coffee—at least two of which he was first exposed to at Gilbert Elementary. Appropriate shoutouts are due to Chris Sandow (GES Art) and Pam Halliday (GES Music)!
Chase Horne: LHS c/o 2013
Chase Horne loved Gilbert Elementary so much, he decided to come back! He is our first alumni to return to teaching at Gilbert Elementary. Chase is currently our 4th grade math teacher here at Gilbert Elementary. He is also the Head Boys' Soccer Coach at LaFayette High School. When Chase is not at school, or on the field, he is working in the pastures raising cattle or building his lawn care business. Chase is married to his high school sweetheart, Lani Horne who is also a teacher at Rock Spring Elementary. Some of his favorite memories from his time as a student at Gilbert are going to Kaleidoscope, scoring a perfect score on the 4th grade CRCT, and family fun nights. When in 5th grade, Chase was asked what he wanted to do when he grew up and he knew he wanted to become a teacher. Now he gets to live that dream out every day!
